![]() He also stops referring to his "previous self" as "the other Greed" upon regaining his memories.Īfter forming a temporary alliance with Edward and company, Greed and Ling help in the fight against the Homunculi and the Central Troopers. Remembering this, along with how Bradly killed most of his followers, leads Greed to betraying Father once again. Greed is reluctant to willingly give him back his body however.Īfter killing a past comrade and follower of his, memories from Greed's previous life returned, including his time in the Devil's Nest and the feelings he had for his followers. By doing this, Ling is able to regain his sixth sense of detecting another's presence, but is not able to use the Ultimate Shield. However, as Greed is a host in Ling Yao's body, Ling is able to regain control of his body if Greed let's his guard down or allows him to. As such, he becomes a faithful servant of his Father, as the first Greed was presumed to have been initially, and refers to all actions prior to his rebirth as having been done by "the other Greed". This second Greed maintains all the same personality and powers as the first (his Ouroboros tattoo is even in the same spot), but appears to have none of his previous memories, not recognizing Envy, Gluttony or the Elric Brothers. These movies are just fanservice at the end of the day. After Greed is punished by Father, he later returns as Father removes his son's Philosophers Stone core from his own body and inserts it directly into the body of Ling Yao to create a second Human-based Homunculus. Just don't go in expecting anything groundbreaking. I certainly wouldn't recommend these movies to people with no knowledge of the manga or anime, but if you are a fan then sure, watch 'em. I'm a sucker for hot dads with depression. Overall, the main parts I enjoyed were Hohenheim's scenes. Especially if you've seen both the 2003 anime and Brotherhood, the scores there are incredible. ![]() Speaking of music, the score for these films is really disappointing. I think it would have been cute to show multiple cast photos, like the manga does, along with some music. I also felt the ending scene was a bit awkward, as they only show one image of Edward while no music plays. Still, Olivier's actress was really spot on. I think they could have removed it, and still made the film work. As much as I liked that arc in the manga, it didn't work here. ![]() I think cutting out the Briggs stuff entirely would have benefitted them. My main complaint was how long this film was. The CGI was definitely not great, but I was able to look past it. Overall, I think these films do a better job at adapting Hohenheim's funnier/softer side than the anime does, but that's just me. Also, his voice acting for Father as a blob was really enjoyable! I was also happy they included Hohenheim's "vintage armor" line, as the anime didn't. ![]() I was always bummed that hadn't made it into the anime, so I'm glad this film included it. ![]() Uchino as Hohenheim is by far my favorite part of the film, and seeing his ending scene with Trisha was really sweet. No live action adaptation of an anime is ever going to be good, especially when they're working with 27 volumes. This movie is by no means perfect, but I still had a lot of fun watching it. ![]()
